Depressive Symptoms as a predictor of response to positive psychotherapy for adolescents

Abstract
This study investigated the role of depressive symptoms in predicting improvement of happiness after a course of positive psychotherapy. A total of 60 adolescents participated in the study. Depressive symptoms were assessed with the Beck Depression Inventory and happiness was measured with the Mental Health Continuum Short Form. Results indicated that depressive symptoms predicted level of psychological well-being at 8-weeks. The results support the role of depressive symptoms in positive psychotherapy. It is suggested that pre-intervention for the reduction of depressive symptoms before positive psychotherapy is needed.
